Our trip to the Science Centre

I think it's fair to say that everyone had a marvellous time today. The Ontario Science Centre was inundated with over 3800 students but nonetheless we all managed to enjoy numerous hands on activities and to see the many sights available today. I really wish I could find my camera! That being said, I know that some of our wonderful parent volunteers were snapping photos so if anyone is willing to share them, I'll post them on the blog for everyone to enjoy.

Most of the Clairlea Kindergarteners hung out at KidsPark which is a space that has been especially designed for children eight years old and under. In this area, the students looked at ways to move water and to make water move other objects; making bubbles, viewing poison dart frogs; magnets and patterning; the human skeletal system; caves and footprints of the animals which inhabit these spaces. Also in KidsPark, the children had the opportunity to explore simple machines (ramps, levers, pulleys); sound and music; how a grocery store operates; and constructing a house; among many, many other exhibits and activities.

There is currently a special exhibit at the OSC all about reptiles and some groups were able to visit this too. I didn't make it there but plan to go back soon with my own family to get a look at the python, hard and soft shelled turtles and the lizards.

Other groups took advantage of activity centres where they could make paper airplanes and icecream cones!

All in all, it was a wonderful, wonderful, wonder-filled morning. I strongly encourage everyone to go back and to go often.

A special thank you must go out to our parent volunteers who kept their groups safe, engaged, happy, and curious! Thank you Mrs. Callaghan-Fair, Mrs. Cummings, Mrs. Roopnarine, Mrs. Whittle, and Mrs. Zhou. The day wouldn't have been possible without you! :))
