Unfortunately I don't have any photos of the last couple of weeks as my camera is out of commission. However, I'm very happy to report that the students have been exploring Canadian coins and took the initiative to create a store in our classroom. Our restaurant is now more of a snack bar/convenience store where students are happily engaged in exchanging goods for funds.
We also invented a circle game at the carpet where each student takes a coin and must see which items they are able to purchase with that coin from a selection of things spread out in front of them... I noticed how quickly some students were able to differentiate between the symbol for cents and the symbol for dollars.
As most of the students are very excited by the play money, I'll probably keep it available for them for the rest of the school year... I can't believe that it's almost over! Grade 1, here they come!!
