3-D solids game.

Here's another game we invented for the carpet: Everyone sits in a big circle. In the middle, a selection of 3-D solids are placed (rectangular prism, cone, pyramid, cube, sphere). Each child who wants to participate says: "This is a (name of selected solid); but it's also a ....". In French it goes like this: "Ceci est un cone; mais c'est aussi un chapeau (hat)". The child acts out what their chosen solid has turned into. This game was a source of great hilarity as the students came up with highly imaginative ideas and fun ways of showing them.
This game is an example of play-based learning: By the end of the week, most of the students were able to name all the geometric 3-D solids by their proper names, as well as some of their attributes (E.g. this one has 4 triangles and a square in it). Great learning!
